Cassiopea

Transforming a former research laboratory into a multifunctional space with a children's area, a bar, and a small amphitheater

The Cassiopea project preserves the industrial "memory" of the former laboratory — exposed concrete columns, open ductwork and utilities — and reimagines it as the setting for a space journey. The core idea is immersion in a cosmic adventure through a contemporary reading of retrofuturism: rounded forms, orbital compositions, mosaic panels depicting atoms, rockets, planets, and constellations, and electronic LED displays scrolling "onboard messages." This is not a literal sci-fi pastiche, but a dialogue between the raw industrial base of the space and the handcrafted warmth of mosaic art.

The space is organized as a single "space station" made up of several modules: the bar serves as the compositional centerpiece, with a brick counter set against a large-scale mosaic backdrop; the children's area offers a softer, more playful interpretation of the same theme; the amphitheater provides a place for events and shared moments; and the lounge areas feature striped banquette seating and transparent acrylic ghost chairs. Lighting acts as the narrator throughout — warm accent and pendant fixtures highlight the artwork, while cool daylight from the windows reminds visitors of the world beyond the "station," and the color palette shifts from rich terracotta-burgundy tones at the bar to deep, almost monochromatic burgundy mosaic compositions elsewhere.
