This project proposes a spa complex concept designed for a picturesque site in Portugal. The development is intended as an extension of an existing small hotel, enhancing its program and offering guests a retreat focused on wellness and spa treatments.
The spa building is conceived as a distinct architectural object within its natural surroundings, deliberately standing out as a foreign element. At the same time, the choice of materials and finishes responds sensitively to the landscape, allowing the building to visually integrate back into its context.
The volume of the spa is divided into two main parts: a suspended, semi-transparent envelope and a clear glass cube. This composition creates the impression of a floating mass, while the perforated cladding allows natural light to penetrate the interior and forms a more private atmosphere on the upper level, where massage rooms and a fitness area are located.
Overall, the concept can be described as a cube covered by a soft, light-permeable layer — a “blanket” through which light gently filters. This architectural metaphor conveys a sense of warmth, comfort, and calm, reflecting the core idea of the spa complex as a place for rest and restoration.
